Philosophy
At Dream Big Little One, our Program is designed for children to build their knowledge, inquiries, and understanding of how things work through hands-on activities, and explorations through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). We believe that children are active adventurers and explorers in their learning within their environment; that is the reason we have an emergent curriculum where they will learn about the world that surrounds them based on their own interests. Our approach is focused on a child-centered curriculum that is inspiring and nurturing where discoveries and creative play takes place. Our outdoor learning and inquiry takes place through explorations of the environment. Through the daily routines children will engage in different activities, develop their social-emotional interactions, problem-solve, and develop self-regulation and conflict-resolution skills.
We are inspired by STEAM curriculum to encourage the children to develop their critical thinking and logical reasoning by providing open-ended questions and conversations to expand their curiosity about how things work. We want children in our program to feel confident and be active participants in their own learning. The children and Teacher work together in the learning process. We strongly believe that the environment acts as the third teacher. Our Program is designed to meet the children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs. We model love and respect for one another and the environment, and create a space for learning at the children's unique pace.
We value strong parent partnerships as it is an essential part in the child’s learning. We believe that working as a team creates and maintains a positive relationship that will benefit the child to his or her full potential. Parent partnership is an important part, connecting home and school. My primary goal as a Program Director and Head Teacher is to ensure families that their child is in a safe environment while at school.
About our Program
Our STEAM based Spanish bilingual program provides developmentally appropriate materials and activities for the whole child. We teach children ages 18 mos - 5yrs. The activities are set up with intention and supports emergent curriculum. Hands-on learning will be balanced with planned and child centered activities.
We want children in our program to learn fundamental skills for cooperation, teamwork, and mindfulness; and feel safe and confident while at school. At our School children learn at their own pace and work with the materials of their interests in a diverse setting.
At Dream Big Little One we offer many materials for the children to explore and discover their form and function and lead them to building their critical thinking skills, language, imagination, curiosity, and problem solving skills. To see the children learn new skills and grow is very valuable to us!
We celebrate books and incorporate them into our everyday learning experiences. Connecting children through literacy to the world around them provides them with a special connection and a personal relationship to daily life, nature, and an appreciation of the complexity of living things.
APPROACH TO DISCIPLINE
At our school we use positive reinforcement and guidance. We believe that children need to be taught and guided through difficult and frustrating situations. We model appropriate behavior and talk about the importance to use our words to express emotions, problem solve, and develop conflict-resolution skills.
We believe in promoting self-confidence in little ones by empowering them as they learn their strengths and develop their own personalities!
MEAL TIME
During mealtimes we all come together at the meal table! We value diversity and different cultures so we encourage families to provide a healthy lunch meal for their children. During this time children can talk about the variety of foods they bring from home. Please know that PEANUT PRODUCTS are not allowed at school due to allergies.
We provide two healthy and nutritious snacks per day: morning and afternoon snack. If your child has a food allergy please let us know so that we can provide an alternative choice.
Nutrition is an important part in a child’s growth!
